Joining and Surface Technology

Joining and surface technology (FORTIS) is a scientific division at the Institute of Materials Science that researches and develops technologies for the coating of tribologically highly stressed component surfaces and the brazing of metals and ceramics.

Joining and surface technology (FORTIS) is a scientific division at the Institute of Materials Science that researches and develops technologies for the coating of tribologically highly stressed component surfaces and the brazing of metals and ceramics.

Thermal coating processes include thermal spraying, such as atmospheric plasma spraying, arc spraying and high-speed flame spraying, as well as thin-film processes such as magnetron sputtering and electroplating. Among the brazing processes, application-oriented material, brazing and process developments are carried out in vacuum furnaces and inert gas continuous furnaces.
