Motivation

The advantage of the wet chemical process for the production of nanoparticles is that various inorganic materials can be grown on many billions of nanoparticles with the precision of a few atomic monolayers. A variety of wet-chemical "bottom-up" production methods for nanoparticles of different sizes, shapes and material compositions are already known. Many of the resulting nanoscale materials have fascinating physical and chemical properties that are of great interest for a broad range of applications (e.g. catalysis, photocatalysis and sensor technology).   

Objectives

Within a team of chemists and nano-technologists, processes shall be developed that allow implementing the advantageous properties of the newly developed functional nanostructures in a 3D structuring. In the future, newly developed physical properties of functional nanostructures should also be applicable in the macroscopic range. The aim of the PhD project is the implementation of different assembly processes from wet-chemically produced colloidal nanocrystals to either densely packed (compact) or extremely low-density macroscopic materials such as aerogels by means of different additive manufacturing processes.
