Joining and surface technology
FORTIS is a scientific department of the Institute of Materials Science, where technologies for coating of tribologically highly stressed component surfaces, as well as the brazing of metals and ceramic are researched and further developed.
Thermal coating processes include thermal spraying, such as atmospheric plasma spraying, electric arc spraying, and high-speed flame spraying, as well as thin-film processes such as magnetron sputtering and electroplating. For soldering processes, application-oriented materials, solder and process developments are carried out in vacuum furnaces and inert gas continuous furnaces.
